Prof. Carles Bo

Computational modeling of chemical reactivity

Prof. Carles Bo

Prof. Bo graduated in Chemical Sciences from the University of Barcelona in 1986, and completed a Master’s degree in Homogeneous Catalysis under the supervision of Prof. Carmen Claver in 1988. He defended his Doctoral Thesis in 1992, in which he worked on the development and implementation of computational codes for the Topological Analysis of Electronic Density in Systems with Transition Metals, under the supervision of Prof. J. M. Poblet.

He obtained the degree of Doctor from the Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona. While completing his Ph. D. studies, he visited the Laboratoire de Chimie Quantique (Strasbourg, France) on several occasions under the supervision of Profs. A. Dedieu and M. Bénard. He obtained a position as Profesor Ayudante in Tarragona in 1993, and as Profesor Titular de Universidad in 1995. Later, he did a postdoctoral secondment in the group of Prof. Baerends in Amsterdam (The Netherlands, 1995), during which he actively contributed to the development of the ADF program system, the leader in the implementation of the Density Functional Theory. He joined the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) as a Group Leader in March 2004.

Prof. Bo have led the development of the ioChem-BD platform designed to efficiently manage the results that are generated daily in computational chemistry laboratories, with the goal of reducing storage costs, promoting the dissemination of results and facilitating data-driven research. This new distributed platform is open-source, it provides services to users worldwide, and it is available at www.iochem-bd.org.
