We are proud to announce that in 2025, ICIQ has been accredited for the third time as a “Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence” by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) and the State Research Agency (AEI)—the highest recognition for research institutions in Spain, alongside the “María de Maeztu Excellence Unit” distinction.
ICIQ first received this prestigious accreditation in 2014, followed by a second in 2020, and now again in 2025. This continued recognition underscores our consistent scientific excellence and consolidates ICIQ’s position as a leading centre for chemical research both nationally and internationally. The new accreditation, effective from 1 April 2025, follows a rigorous evaluation and competitive selection process based on the highest international standards and scientific criteria.
The recognition supports the execution of a four-year strategic research plan and provides up to €4.5 million in funding to strengthen institutional capabilities, foster cutting-edge scientific programmes, and attract and retain top research talent. Additionally, the accreditation includes the direct assignment of 10 predoctoral contracts, representing an extra €1.25 million in funding.
This third Severo Ochoa distinction reinforces ICIQ’s leadership in chemical research and its commitment to transformative science, innovation, and excellence.
