Catalytic, sustainable and selective organic synthesis and biopolymer development
The main research interests of the Kleij group are in the area of CO2 valorization catalysis, the development of new reactivity using organic carbonates as modular precursors towards new engineering and circular polymers and fine chemicals, and the use of functional heterocycles towards challenging stereoselective transformations. The overarching approach is using sustainable approximations combined with selective catalysis as a tool to enable selective synthesis.
In our group, we appreciate an open and social atmosphere that helps everyone to perform at his/her best. We animate each team member to discuss science with others and to set up collaborative work where possible and needed. Active participation at national and international meetings is encouraged. Apart from the daily interactions in the lab, we try to organize group outings such as BBQs, a Christmas dinner, bowling night, celebration dinners and a yearly calçotada - of course, with room for new ideas!
