Mónica H. Pérez-Temprano was born in Valladolid. She completed her BSc in Chemistry at the University of Valladolid (UVA) in 2005 and subsequently carried out her MSc studies in the Department of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry. Mónica earned her PhD degree in Chemistry in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Pablo Espinet and Juan Casares (UVA) in the fields of Organometallic Chemistry and Mechanistic Investigations. Her doctoral work focused on the investigation of reaction mechanisms related to palladium catalyzed transformations.
In 2012, she moved to USA to join the research group of Prof. Melanie Sanford (UMICH) as Ramón Areces Postdoctoral Fellow. There, Mónica explored the intricacies of carbon–heteroatom bond-forming reactions triggered high-valent palladium complexes.
In fall 2015, Mónica was appointed as Junior Group Leader at Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) in Tarragona. In 2022, she was promoted to Senior ICIQ Group Leader. Her research group is at the forefront of using mechanisms as a priori tool for developing innovative and more sustainable transformations, with a primary focus on first-row transition metal catalysis.
Her research career has been recognized with multiple awards including her selection as one of the “Talented 12” of 2018 by Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), the 2020 Young Investigator Group Leader Award by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) or the 2021 Young Investigator Award by the EuChemS Division of Organic Chemistry. In addition, she is member of the International Advisory Board of Organometallics, Chem Catalysis and Chem. Eur. J. Moreover, Mónica am truly committed to bring Science closer to citizens, promoting the scientific education of scholars and the participation of women in STEM.
