The 10th edition of the ‘Crazy about Chemistry’ programme has come to an end. After an intense year of getting up early on Saturdays and coming to Tarragona from differents parts of Catalonia, 21 motivated students put an end to their trip into chemistry embarked in ICIQ
‘Crazy about Chemistry’ is one of the core outreach programmes held at ICIQ. The programme is designed as an introduction to chemistry and research for 16-17 years old students and it aims to foster scientific vocations and develop analytical thinking while being in an environment of excellence.
During 13 sessions spread through the year, students around Catalonia discover new fields of chemistry accompanied by ICIQ’s technicians, researchers and group leaders. The topics covered in the programme are diverse and range from sustainability-related issues (catalysis, artificial photosynthesis…), to analytical techniques including other curious subjects such as molecular cuisine. Interestingly, students get to know this fields both theoretically and through experiments in the lab, being this last part their favourite.
Last Saturday November 25th, the closing session of the ‘Crazy about Chemistry’ programme took place at ICIQ’s Auditorium. In this final meeting, the students performed a small congress where they presented the results they had achieved during the development of their synthetic projects. After the interesting discussion, they expressed their feedbak about the programme, highlighting the participation in one of the episodes of our Blau de Prússia podcast with Tarragona Ràdio. Families were also invited and, from the words of their own children, they got to know a bit more about the ‘Crazy about Chemistry’ experience.
After the successful year of chemical adventures, the ICIQ Scientific Outreach and Education unit is now on the recruitment of new motivated students to star in the next crazy trip.
