Cayetana Zárate, PhD student from Prof. Rubén Martin group, has received the SusChem award Predoc – Mestrelab for the paper “A Mild Ni/Cu-Catalyzed Silylation via C-O Cleavage” published on the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
The paper describes a new method that uses two catalysts that work cooperatively to activate and functionalize phenol derivatives. Those compounds are very attractive for industry given its accessibility and low toxicity. This methodology will afford the design of new synthetic strategies that are now out of reach.
With these awards, SusChem aims to recognise excellence of young researchers in the field of Chemistry.
