Álvaro Velasco Rubio, born in Salamanca (Spain), received his BSc in chemistry at the University of Salamanca (2015). He completed his MSc in Organic Chemistry (2016) at the University of Santiago de Compostela. In 2021 he obtained the PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Cum Laude, under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Saá and Jesús A. Varela, working on transition-metal catalysis towards bioactive seven-membered azaheterocycles. During the PhD he developed an international stay at Caltech in the group of Prof. Brain M. Stoltz, working on stereospecific Overmann rearrangement. In 2022, he moved to the group of Prof. Martín Fañanás to work on the functionalization of simple alkanes. His research interests are focused on the development of new sustainable methodologies to the transformation of greenhouse gases into highly valuable products.
