Vasiliki Papantoniou

Visiting Student

Vasiliki has done a year of laboratory experience in the Nanochemistry Lab with supervisor Prof. Vasilios Georgakilas of the Department of Materials Science of the University of Patras, Greece and in the Process and Environmental Engineering laboratory with supervisor Prof. Dimitrios Vagenas, of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Patras, Greece, as part of his thesis with the topic ‘’ Development of innovative electrodes for drinking water denitrification”. Research has been carried out in the Nanochemistry lab regarding the synthesis of materials and the preparation of aluminum electrodes with the addition of biomass and specifically, microalgae, as a raw material with the aim of using them for the denitrification of drinking water through electrochemical treatments such as electrolysis and electrocalgulation, where they were carried out in the Process and Environmental Engineering laboratory. For the production and synthesis process of the materials, a series of treatments was followed (HTC hydrothermal treatment, carbonization, activation, pyrolysis). The electrodes were fabricated using the Dr.Blade and Spin Coating techniques. Knowledge of additional characterization techniques: Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), Photoluminescence (PL), X-Ray Diffraction analysis (XRD), XPS analysis, SEM and EDS analysis.
