The group's overall goal is to advance in the science of (photo-)electrocatalysis, catalyst design and their integration towards Artificial Photosynthetic Schemes (APS), which holds the promise to produce cleaner, high-value chemicals and fuels from abundant feedstocks and renewable energy.
Ideal abundant feedstocks are H2O as the source of reductive equivalents employed to reduce water, CO2, or other organic functionalities. As a clean driving force for the synthesis of high-value chemicals and fuels, we will target both the use of visible light (photoredox catalysis) and redox potential (electrocatalysis). However, we still need to understand the fundamental principles governing those artificial photosynthetic schemes. To this end, we will devote our effort to providing fundamental knowledge, designing catalysts, and developing new tools to accelerate the research via high throughput experimental techniques and automatization.
