New reactivity rules for C-H & C-C bond functionalizations to impact drug discovery and chemical biology.
The main objective is to discover and develop new reactivity concepts in C-H and C-C bond functionalization through the catalytic generation of unexplored and underappreciated reactive species. We have pioneered the catalytic generation of diazomethyl radicals and Rh-carbynoids as carbyne equivalents, which allowed us to discover novel late-stage functionalizations of complex natural products and drug molecules as well as skeletal editing processes. We are also interested in high-throughput techniques for the synthesis of libraries of bioactive molecules, development of new radiolabelling reactions to impact PET imaging and precision medicine as well as new reagents for site-selective bioconjugations of biomamacromolecules to impact chemical biology.
Life in ICIQ research groups is collaborative and inclusive, blending scientific work with social connection. With team members from diverse backgrounds, each group embraces cultural exchange, often gathering over food, music, and local traditions. Beyond lab work, groups enjoy activities like beach outings, hikes, and holiday celebrations, building a supportive community that values teamwork.
