Luis Escobar was born in Albacete (Spain) in 1992. He received his Bachelor Degree in Chemistry from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in 2014. Then, he moved to the University of Rovira and Virgili (URV) and the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) to pursue his Master Degree and PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry, supported by an FPU fellowship, under the supervision of Prof. Pablo Ballester. During his PhD, he also carried out a research internship with Prof. Jonathan L. Sessler at the University of Texas (UT) at Austin. In 2019, he earned his PhD from the URV and the ICIQ. After that, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Chemical Biology and Prebiotic Chemistry with Prof. Thomas Carell at the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) of Munich, thanks to a Humboldt fellowship, and later in Polymer Science with Prof. Christopher A. Hunter at the University of Cambridge. In 2024, he obtained a Junior Leader fellowship from “La Caixa” Foundation and returned to the ICIQ to start his independent career.

Luis Escobar is co-author of several papers published in high-impact journals, such as Nature, PNAS and Chemical Reviews. He has received numerous awards, for example, the extraordinary PhD award in Chemical Science and Technology from the URV and the postdoctoral research award from the Royal Society of Chemistry of Spain (RSEQ). He was also nominated as an emerging talent in Systems Chemistry by the journal ChemSystemsChem (Wiley). His research interests are in the areas of molecular recognition, self-assembly and supramolecular polymerization.
