PHOTONEX – Multiplex Excited State Photoredox Colloidal Motors

Grant description

This project aims to develop versatile light-driven colloidal motors, based on organometallic compounds, capable of self-propulsion in both aqueous and organic solvents. These colloids will selectively photo-catalyze reactions based on their redox potentials, mimicking natural photosynthetic systems.

Their unique photophysical properties, including fluorescence, oxygen sensitivity, and responsiveness to oxidative and reductive pathways, will provide real-time insights into the underlying reaction mechanisms.

The Beatriu de Pinós programme (posdocBP) focuses on the attraction of post-doctoral research talent. The programme, funded by the Direcció General de Recerca de la Generalitat de Catalunya (General Directorate for Research in the Government of Catalonia) and managed by AGAUR, was launched in 2005.

The goal of the calls in the Beatriu de Pinós programme is to provide individual funding support for the recruitment and incorporation of post-doctoral researchers in the Catalan system of science and technology. Researchers are allowed to freely choose their own research project in any field. Candidate selection is performed through an independent, transparent and competitive evaluation process.

The posdocBP programme is aimed at the professional development of research staff in three areas: leadership, independence and consolidation. Besides, it promotes international mobility, multidisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration, and fosters supplementary training of researchers in transversal skills.

Dr Majid BASHARAT, obtained his Doctoral Degree in Chemistry from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China (2020), and has two years of Postdoctoral research experience from Institute for Advanced Study Shenzhen University, China (2020-2022). He has working experience on the synthesis of the colloids, micromachines design (active matter), fluorescence microscopy and particle tracking as well as computer simulation. His skills are integrated with colloidal particles synthesis based on polymers, metals, liposomes and heteroatoms doped carbon (Patchy, Janus, Hydrophilic, Hydrophobic, Hybrid and Surface functionalized, optical properties (fluorescence, band-gap engineering, photocatalytic properties and magnetic properties), investigation using optical, confocal microscopy, particle-resolved fluorescence and optical tweezers and analysing the images, and tracking trajectories and behaviors e.g., crystallization, self-assemblies, motions, and photonic properties. So far, he has published 6 first authors publications in famous journals (Small, Journal of Materials Chemistry C, Materials Chemistry Frontiers, Polymer, Materials Chemistry and Physics, Journal of Materials Science), and several in second and co-authors.
