Tuesday 8th of November was a very important day at ICIQ. We had the pleasure to welcome Professor and Nobel Laureate Richard R. Schrock (MIT) and Professor Barluenga (Universidad de Oviedo).
They were the main characters of the closing act for the 2011 International Year of Chemistry at ICIQ.
|
Professor Schrock delivered a seminar entitled ‘Solving the Final Problems in Olefin Metathesis, Z and E Selectivity’.
On the other hand, Professor Barluenga received the first ICIQ’s Fèlix Serratosa Medal for his scientific career.
Afterwards, Prof. Barluenga delighted us with his talk “The Trip to Ithaca, Penelope and Science: Reflections on a Chemical Odyssey”and and took us through his scientific experience of a lifetime.

The day and our International Year of Chemistry ended up with the inauguration of a painting exhibition by Fidel Solé at ICIQ’s entrance hall. |
Some newspapers covered some of these events (see the PDFs below). We have more pictures on our Facebook page
