The ICIQ and Universitat Rovira i Virgili celebrated Professor Piet van Leeuwen‘s 70th birthday last Friday, February 3rd, with a symposium entitled ‘Giving Wings to Homogenous Catalysts’.
Professor van Leeuwen moved to the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) in 2004. He currently leads a group of seven researchers (PhD students, Post-Docs and a laboratory technician) working in the field of homogeneous catalysis.
They focus both on the study of ligand effects and the use of metal nanoparticles in homogenous catalysis.
Last Friday, some of his former students, colleagues and friends came to ICIQ to celebrate his 70th birthday surrounded by one of the things he enjoys the most: chemistry. Chemistry Views and Catalysis Science & Technology joint in with their pieces of news. Piet also received a present from Catalysis Science & Technology, the journal he is co-Editor-in-chief for and an iPad from friends, students and colleagues.
It was a very emotional day and probably one of his most memorable birthday celebrations. |
