OMCOS logo

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Rubén Martín, ICIQ group leader and ICREA professor, has just been announced the winner of the prestigious OMCOS Award. The OMCOS Award established to recognize a scientist under the age of 40, who has made significant contributions to the field of organometallic chemistry and organic synthesis. This award, sponsored in recent years by the Yen Chuang Foundation, is presented every two years on the occasion of OMCOS, an international conference on Organometallic Chemistry Directed Towards Organic Synthesis organised every two years by IUPAC.

Prof. Rubén Martín is the first Spanish Chemist ever to win this award. OMCOS had previously recognised the work of top chemists like Greg Fu (Caltech), Erick Carreira (ETH), Dean Toste (Berkeley), Kyoko Nozaki (Tokyo) or Melanie Sanford (University of Michigan), among others. As part of the award, Prof. Martín will deliver one of the Invited Lectures of this year’s OMCOS19 Conference that will take place in South Korea in June.

Rubén Martín received his PhD in 2003 under the supervision of Prof. Antoni Riera (University of Barcelona). After two postdoctoral positions at Max-Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung with Prof. Alois Fürstner (2004-2005) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Prof. Stephen L. Buchwald (2005-2008), he joined ICIQ as a group leader. In 2013 he was promoted to associate professor and subsequently to ICREA Research Professor. He has published over 65 publications and his current research interests concern the discovery of synthetically useful organometallic methodologies. While at ICIQ, he has received several awards like the RSEQ Young Investigator Award (2010), Thieme Chemistry Journal Award (2011), Eli Lilly Young Investigator Award (2011) and the RSEQ Excellent Research Award (2015). He has also been awarded with an ERC-Starting Grant (2012) and a ERC-Proof of Concept Grant (2016).
