Dr. Imma Escofet Miquel, appointed new General Manager of ICIQ

Tarragona, 20 March 2025 – The Board of Trustees of the Institute of Chemical Research  of Catalonia Foundation has approved the appointment of Dr. Imma Escofet Miquel as the institute’s new General Manager, a key position in advancing scientific excellence and ensuring the efficient management of the centre.

Dr. Escofet steps into this role with 15 years of experience in the field of chemical research and a strong background in team management and scientific strategy. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from Rovira i Virgili University and has also completed a course in Innovation, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship at ESADE.

Throughout her career in both the public and private sectors, Escofet has been closely linked to ICIQ, where she has served as the Scientific Coordinator of Professor Antonio M. Echavarren’s research group. Under his supervision, she completed her doctoral thesis, working in the fields of gold homogeneous catalysis, organic synthesis, and computational chemistry. In this role, she has been deeply involved in laboratory management, research project design and development, and research group coordination, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of ICIQ’s operations. She has played a pivotal role in training several international researchers, establishing herself as a reference in the field. Moreover, Dr. Escofet has made significant contributions to ICIQ’s strategic initiatives and science outreach activities.

With her international and scientific expertise, Dr. Escofet assumes leadership at a time of significant growth for ICIQ, embracing the new challenges ahead with the goal of strengthening its position as a world-leading centre for chemical research.
