29th Fèlix Serratosa Conference at ICIQ

Opening address by Prof. Ruben Martín and keynote lectures by Prof. Marcos García Suero and Prof. Ilan Marek

The 29th Fèlix Serratosa Conference kicked off on 10th February 2025 at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) with an opening address by Prof. Ruben Martín, ICIQ Group Leader. The two-day event took place at two venues: the first day at ICIQ and the second at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), bringing  together leading researchers to foster scientific exchange and collaboration.

The conference’s first day featured two keynote lectures:

> Prof. Marcos García Suero, ICIQ Group Leader, presented “Catalytic Carbyne Transfer to Impact Skeletal Editing and Late-Stage Functionalization”, highlighting innovative approaches of carbynes in synthetic organic chemistry.

> Prof. Ilan Marek, from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, delivered “Nucleophilic Substitution at Quaternary Carbon Stereocenters”, offering thought-provoking perspectives on advanced synthetic methodologies.

Now in its 29th edition, the Fèlix Serratosa Conference honors Prof. Fèlix Serratosa, a pioneering figure in Spanish organic chemistry who inspired generations of chemists at the Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The lecture series alternates between Barcelona and ICIQ, reflecting Serratosa’s enduring influence on the scientific community.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Martín emphasized the value of collaboration and knowledge sharing as catalysts for scientific progress. The conference continues to serve as a dynamic platform for researchers to exchange ideas, showcase innovations, and build connections that could inspire future breakthroughs.
