October comes to an end with the VII ICIQ – URV PhD Day, a yearly event organized by and for PhD students. Around 150 students attended to this two-day event, some of them also with a poster presentation or a 5 minutes-flash communication.
From October 30th to the 31st, the VII ICIQ – URV PhD Day has counted with an outstanding participation with 24 flash talks and 23 poster presentations, and a line-up of recognized speakers that have shared their “scientific life story” and provide many different viewpoints on what to do after finishing a PhD.
The invited speakers were Prof. Elena Fernández, Group Leader at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV); Dr. Silvia Planella, Postdoctoral Researcher at URV; Dr. Carla Casadevall, Junior Group Leader ICIQ/URV; Prof. Timothy Noël, Group Leader at University of Amsterdam; Dr. Santiago Cañellas, Senior Scientist at Janssen; Dr. Amos Martínez, Senior Editor of Nature Materials; and Dr. Iolanda Marchueta, Scientific Senior Advisor.
“This event highlights the importance of a dedicated day for PhD students, emphasizing the critical role of science and the scientific method in advancing humanity. I’m honoured to inspire the next generation of PhDs, as we recognize that without science, industry, and technology, progress would be impossible”, declares Dr. Marchueta.
The invited speakers will discuss and select the best flash presentation and the best poster communication, awarded by the VII ICIQ – URV PhD Day organizing committee.
“Preparing the PhD Day was a challenging yet valuable experience. We encountered obstacles, but that’s part of the journey, especially for PhDs. I’ve learned a lot and formed lasting friendships with the organizers. While it can be stressful, overall, it’s highly rewarding”, explains Marco Nicaso, from ICIQ, and member of the organizing committee, together with Sergio Barranco, Adrián Brenes and Luisa Hallado also from the ICIQ, and Paula Casasús, Pol Clivillé, Javier Delgado, Oscar Gómez, Eric Miró and Glòria Rovira from URV.
