Minister Serret praises ICIQ’s excellence in securing European funding for scientific research

During her visit to Tarragona, she highlights ICIQ’s key role in areas such as decarbonization, green hydrogen, molecular medicine, and the training of young scientists.

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) was privileged to receive a visit from representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Action and European Union, as well as European Commission today. The objective of the visit was to familiarize themselves with ICIQ, a key institution receiving European funds for scientific research and innovation.

Led by Meritxell Serret, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the delegation to delve into the forefront of chemical research and witness firsthand the impactful contributions made by ICIQ in advancing the field.

“ICIQ’s dedication to excellence in chemical research and its effective utilization of European funding exemplify the spirit of innovation and collaboration that we strive to support,” remarked Meritxell Serret. “This visit has been enlightening, and we look forward to continuing our partnership to drive scientific progress and address global challenges together.”

Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged in insightful discussions and interactive sessions, gaining deeper insights into ICIQ’s cutting-edge projects fueled by European funds. They explored the Institute’s commitment to excellence in research and its collaborative endeavors with both national and international partners.

Professor Emilio Palomares, Director of ICIQ, expressed gratitude for the visit, stating, “Welcoming the esteemed representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union reaffirms the significance of our work at ICIQ and the critical role of European funding in driving our research forward. We are honored to showcase our achievements and look forward to continued collaboration to further catalyze scientific progress.”

Regarding the decarbonization project, endowed with a budget of 5 million euros, Prof. Palomares has stated: “Decarbonizing the chemical industry is an urgent challenge to ensure a sustainable future. I trust that, despite the context of the upcoming elections in Catalonia, this national project will proceed, prioritizing the expertise and knowledge of research centers to support the companies in our territory through this transition.”

The visit served as a platform to highlight the profound impact of European funds on ICIQ’s groundbreaking research initiatives. It further solidified ICIQ’s position as a leading institution in harnessing European resources for scientific exploration and innovation.

As the delegation departs, both parties remain committed to fostering collaborative partnerships and leveraging European support to propel scientific advancements that will impact society’s future.
