ICIQ promotes a new lab dedicated to analysing the products of CO2 reduction: the Energy Lab

This initiative opens the facilities, equipment, and know-how of  our research centre to companies

The Energy Lab is the new ICIQ facility dedicated to analysing CO2 reduction products.

The available instrumentation includes different chromatographs with special configurations which will allow researchers inside and outside ICIQ to analyse comprehensive mixtures of gases. This new facility will allow companies to determine the products obtained with electrolytic cells by using a combination of two analytical techniques. Gas chromatography will be used to analyse gases such as CO2, ethene, ethane, H2, N2, O2, methane and CO; while ion chromatography will analyse the liquid phase products, for example acetate, oxalate or formate.

ICIQ’s Head of the Reaction Technologies Department, Dr. Gisela Colet, celebrates the opening of ICIQ facilities to companies. “Now, we’ll be able to provide an essential service to ICIQ researchers while contributing through analysis to the work carried out outside the institute. In most cases, this will allow us to play a part in the development of better solutions.”

This initiative aims to optimize access to these facilities to both the scientific community and industrial sector, offering the services of highly qualified technical personnel.
