ICIQ is committed with the main challenges such as climate change and does research to mitigate the effect of greenhouse gases and the promotion of new renewable energies. In this context, some years ago ICIQ joint the SUNER-C Consortium as unique partnership of 29 organisations, which bring together a wide diversity of members, expertise and fields from all regions of EU. The objective of this open community is to develop a strategic roadmap for deployment of solar fuels and chemical products.
SUNER-C is the tool employed by SUNERGY community, uniting science, business, societal and other relevant stakeholders, to develop and expand the innovation ecosystem for solar fuels and chemicals. Both through indirect processes and direct conversion of solar to chemical energy and products.
Different EU partners gather together to work on building an ecosystem of companies, researchers, societal actors and policymakers, to accelerate the transition of technologies for the generation of solar fuels and chemicals, from the laboratory to large-scale industrial applications.
The recently published industry endorsement letter, already backed by organizations, academic and research institutions, is now encouraging more organizations to endorse this letter to not only increase the impact of this initiative but also demonstrate unity and collaboration within the industry.
The letter highlights the importance of sustainable fuels that can contribute to reducing GHG emissions and to a circular economy, as they are produced through alternative and renewable raw materials.
It also brings attention to why Europe needs an European Partnership on Sustainable Fuels as now the EU does not have a consistent framework to support R&I in the field of sustainable fuels, but rather scattered initiatives and projects, both at EU and national level. The EU need to address this gap to accelerate, improve and scale-up technologies as well as to develop solutions – including next generation ones – with high impact.
