This recognition distinguishes the ICIQ office’s transfer work form the institute to industry and society
The Knowledge and Technology Transfer and Industrial Projects Department (ICIQ-KTT) from the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ-CERCA) has been accredited as a Knowledge Transfer Office (OTC) by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. This acknowledgement is a recognition of the work of ICIQ-KTT team, which strives to transfer the technologies developed at the institute to the market and society with the ultimate goal of improving quality of life for all.
ICIQ-KTT is a dynamic key player that fill the gap between science, technology, and innovation system. Its functions and mission include protecting R&D&I results through industrial and intellectual property strategies; valorising research results, inventions, and new technologies through licensing or spin off creation; facilitating collaborative research between public and private entities; and disseminating knowledge to society.
With this accreditation, ICIQ team will be able to continue bridging the gap between scientific research and industrial application, ensuring that innovations and discoveries made within ICIQ reach society and the market. This recognition will enhance ICIQ’s capabilities in protecting and commercialising research outcomes, increasing public-private partnerships, and promoting a culture of innovation and knowledge dissemination.
ICIQ-KTT works with three technology units in the same three research lines as ICIQ research: sustainable catalysis, renewable energies and health. In the case of technology transfer, ICIQ has now four licensing opportunities in technologies related to bio-materials, hydrogen and late-stage functionalization.
Among its licensed technologies to companies and institutions, there can be found organizations such as the National Institute of Health (USA) – National Cancer Institute (NCI), University of Michigan, InnoxNova and CreatSens Health SL. Additionally, three patents have been licensed to ICIQ spin-off companies: Jolt Solutions (green hydrogen production), Treellum Technologies (photochemistry high throughput instrumentation) and Orchestra Scientific (CO2 capture and utilisation). This last one has recently built a demo plant that will allow companies to test their technology on-site.
