The team collaborates to share experiences and implement sustainable measures in their everyday tasks and research
The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ-CERCA) and 17 other research centres from Catalonia have created the Sustainable Research Catalonia (SuRe) workgroup with the aim of promoting sustainability within each centre and facilitating the exchange of experiences among experts regarding measures implemented there. In total, 18 centres and institutions collaborate and support each other in realizing new sustainable actions in their daily tasks and research.
The ICIQ team has created the SuRe logo, a proposal to emphasize the commitment of the centres to the environment in Catalonia with the green leaf symbol. The platform has been created this 2023, and the group has started working together and sharing their sustainable strategies.
The centres and organisations participating in it are the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), Centre de Regulació Genómica (CRG), European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Hospital Sant Pau, Institut de Ciències Fotòniques (ICFO), Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), Institut de Física d’Altes Energies – Port d’Informació Científica (IFAE-PIC), Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ), Institut de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), Institut de Recerca Biomèdica (IRB), Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), Instituto de Salud Global de Barcelona (ISGlobal), Integra Therapeutics S.L, Omniscope, Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB), Parc de Recerca Biomèdica de Barcelona (PRBB) and Institut d’Oncologia Vall d’Hebron (VHIO).
ICIQ has joined the group with its Green ICIQ team, which works to carry out the institute’s activities in a sustainable manner. ICIQ is committed to improving the environment and preserving natural resources through efficient and responsible use.
Among its actions, it is worth highlighting the ECO-reps volunteering proposal, a group of individuals responsible for sustainability issues in each ICIQ group or unit. The team is also calculating the institute’s Carbon Footprint for the year 2022, a significant initiative to deeply understand ICIQ’s impact on the environment and implement actions to reduce it.
