The national newspaper ‘El Pais’, the most widely read newspaper in Spain, mentions the ICIQ in two of the most recent articles on science and research.
The first one, ‘Borrando el I+D’ refers to the ICIQ as one of the four Spanish research centers of excellence that ranks among the top 30 in the world.
The second one, ‘Los retos de la química verde’, focuses on scientists in Spain who study innovative chemical processes from a sustainable point of view, thus limiting the generation of waste and pollutants.
In the latter, three of our researchers, José Ramón Galán-Mascarós, Rubén Martín and Paolo Melchiorre talk about their research projects.

Dr. Galán-Mascarós describes his research as a kind of ‘chemical mixing’ which consists in the design of materials with unique properties that are made out of the combination of different molecules with well-known physical and chemical properties.
Dr. Martín talks about the synthesis of new drugs by using CO2 and metal catalysts. Finally, Prof. Melchiorre explains his project on the transformation of solar energy into chemical energy for the synthesis of chiral molecules.
These three projects have been awarded with three ERC grants from the European Research Council and now, with an article in the largest newspaper in the country as well.
