Professor Luis A. Oro was awarded with the ICIQ’s Fèlix Serratosa Medal for his valuable contribution and support as member of ICIQ’s Scientific Advisory Board. After receiving the award, he delivered the seminar entitled “Parent Amido and Imido Iridium Diolefin Complexes: N-H Activation of Ammonia”.
Professor Oro served as member of ICIQ’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) during the period 2002-2013. Members of ICIQ’s SAB have the task of giving advice to ICIQ’s Board of Trustees on the Institute’s scientific policy. They also participate in the selection of group leaders and evaluate the scientific activity of ICIQ and its group leaders.
Luis A. Oro is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in Zaragoza and Director of the Instituto Universitario de Catálisis Homogénea (IUCH). His main research interests are in coordination and organometallic chemistry of platinum group metals where he has co- authored well over 500 scientific papers on synthesis, reaction mechanisms and homogeneous catalysis.
He has made an important contribution to the science of chemistry through his outstanding scientific contributions and also, through his committment in putting chemistry in the international science agenda. He has been Vice-President of the European Science Foundation, a member of the European Science and Technology Assembly, the CREST EU Committee and the OECD Science Policy Committee. He also served as President of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry during the period 2000- 2005.
