Andrea H. Henseler, PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Miquel A. Pericàs and Dr. Carles Ayats, defended her PhD Thesis entitled “New Immobilized Catalytic Systems for Batch and Flow Applications” (assigned to the Organic and Analytical Chemistry Department of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili) publicly at the ICIQ auditorium.
The members of her evaluation committee were: Prof. Albrecht Berkessel (University of Cologne), Prof. Kilian Muñiz (ICIQ) and Prof. Claudio Palomo (UPV/EHU).
Abstract:
In this thesis, the synthesis of polystyrene-supported amino acid-derived organocatalysts is described. These recyclable catalysts have been successfully applied in enantioselective aldol and Mannich reactions under batch and continuous flow conditions. In addition, a highly recyclable bifunctional catalyst system able to catalyze the conversion of carbon dioxide and oxiranes to organic cyclic carbonates under mild conditions has been developed.
