November has been a very busy month at ICIQ. We celebrated the Science Week that turned out to be a Science Month! We ran a wide range of activities targeting different audiences, from kids to High School teachers. |
Professor Emilio Palomares and Laia Pellejà welcomed a group of High School teachers on November 15th. They showed them how to build up organic solar cells in a very enriching day both for the teachers and us. |
ICIQ was also present at the 16th Edition of Expoquimia, the leading event for the chemistry sector in southern Europe, which was held in Barcelona from the 14th to the 18th of November. |
From November 16th to 18th, we were at Fira d’R+D at Campus Catalunya, Tarragona, together with other research institutions in the Tarragona’s area. This year, the International Year of Chemistry, our stand was dedicated to Marie Curie and her radioactivity studies. We also showed how to measure accurate volumes to all the people who visited our stand. They also had the chance to play with our magnetic Periodic Table. |
Throughout the 4th week of November, different High Schools came to ICIQ to find out more about who we are and what we do. We organised an interactive visit in which the students had to identify a ‘mysterious’ sample of white powder. This served as the excuse to explore our laboratories and research support areas. |
On Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th more than 100 kids came to the institute to become little scientists. They had the chance to perform different and simple experiments that brought out their curiosity and interest in chemistry. The theme of this year’s ‘Familiar Chemistry’ day was Food Chemistry. |
A very similar event was run at Caixaforum, at Tarragona city centre, on Saturday 26th. A very successful activity that brought kids and parents closer to the world of chemistry. |
ICIQ is strongly committed with education and science outreach and it is with activities like these ones and busy months like November that we feel we are able to bring science and society together. If you want to see more pictures go to our Facebook page. More videos coming soon!
