Good Vibrations, Catalysis & the Origin of Life

Catalysis is fundamental to life. The first part of the talk will describe how transition metal catalysis and redox chemistry could have driven complex chemical reaction networks into existence, setting the stage for life’s metabolic pathways.

The second part of the talk will describe our efforts to selectively control, and eventually catalyze, chemical reactions by manipulating their molecular vibrations using closely spaced mirrors.
