I took over as ICIQ Director on the 28th of September 2020. To me, being the ICIQ Director is a great honour and responsibility. I will rely on the support of a great community of colleagues, who are the most valuable asset of our Institute.

At ICIQ we’re truly committed to effect change in society for a more sustainable community. All our efforts are concentrated on this purpose. We are working to develop and improve novel chemical processes, molecules, and materials to minimise waste and energy consumption. From a catalytic approach – through the generation of hydrogen from water – the development of novel solar cells, the CO₂ conversion into liquid fuels and better feedstocks for the chemical industry, and new materials and processes for energy storage

Our commitment to society doesn’t stop there. Training the scientists and helping advance their careers so they can continue and lead research against climate change, and bring knowledge and education to youth through science outreach programmes, is crucial to create a society that takes action for a more fair, inclusive, and equal world.

And last but not least, it’s in our DNA to foster international collaborations with other research centres and groups to create ambitious projects. In this respect, the Institute will be on the frontline to raise funding from national and European institutions. This underscores our commitment to the industry to boost collaborative projects to help them be more competitive and make advances towards sustainability.

Be assured that we’re doing our best to continue being excellent in science, in the generation and transfer of knowledge, and in education.
