A paper by P. Ballester, J. R. Galán-Mascarós et al. published in Chemistry A European Journal has been highlighted in the ChemistryViews website.
The paper describes the synthesis and characterization of a series of neutral double-decker complexes of lanthanides with octa(ethyl)tetraazaporphyrin. Some of these complexes show single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior but, in contrast with most SMMs that only show SMM behavior at blocking temperatures near that of liquid helium, the Tb3+ and Dy3+ derivatives exhibit SMM behavior with high blocking temperatures over 50 and 10 K, respectively. Moreover, the use of tetraazaporphyrin ligands endows the presented complexes with extraordinary chemical versatility. They are highly soluble in common organic solvents, and easily processable even through sublimation.
This article has also been highlighted as ‘Very Important Paper’.
