The controlled preparation of well-defined distorted nanographenes by a bottom-up approach based on organic synthesis allows the direct establishment of unprecedented structure-property relationships on carbon nanostructures. Simultaneous incorporation of different defects on nanographenes affords highly curved structures with novel photophysical properties, such as combining two-photon absorption (TPA) based upconversion and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). The combination of both non-linear and chiroptical properties in nanographenes opens up new possible future applications for distorted nanostructures. Furthermore, we are also interested in the allosteric control of this CPL response from organic fluorophores, particularly in the context of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
