The department has recently acquired an Electron Diffractometer and an Ion-Mobility Mass Spectrometer, valued at €1.8M and €1M respectively, to enhance its already excellent services.
The Characterization Technologies Department (CTD) of the Institute for Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ-CERCA) has made, this 2023, an investment of almost 3 million euros in state-of-the-art analytical technology. Right now, it has innovative equipment that allows the use of a variety of analytical techniques, providing full solutions for scientific and industrial projects.
The department’s highlights include advanced services for analyzing nanocrystals and organic samples. The structure resolution service boasts Europe’s first dedicated electron diffractometer, capable of analyzing nanocrystals across a wide range of temperatures, in addition to classic X-ray diffraction. The mass counting service features cutting-edge equipment, including Ion-Mobility Mass Spectroscopy, which enables the analysis of organic samples, macromolecules, and organometals. Additionally, the department offers a nuclear magnetic resonance unit with five instruments, each equipped with diverse accessories such as cryogenic probes. The Chromatography laboratory includes a variety of chromatographs and detectors, and the department also offers a wide range of complementary techniques such as spectroscopic methods like IR-Raman, UV-vis, and calorimetry, among others.
The CTD department comprises highly skilled and experienced staff, including PhD and Master’s professionals with several years of expertise in their respective fields. The department benefits from a scientific environment consisting of world-renowned researchers in chemistry and technology units that actively collaborate with companies to solve industrial problems.
To sum up, CTD provides comprehensive solutions that integrate various cutting-edge equipment along with a versatile team that can tackle new challenges with speed and dependable outcomes.
