A paper published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition by Prof. Arjan W. Kleij group has been chosen as “hot paper” by the Editors for their importance and high interest.
The paper deals with the efficient and highly selective formation of a wide range of (hetero)cyclic cis-diol scaffolds using aminotriphenolate-based metal catalysts. The key intermediates are cyclic carbonates and the deprotection of the carbonate structures affords synthetically useful cis-diol scaffolds with different ring sized that incorporate various functional groups.
