SUPERVAL team meets at project midpoint to coordinate next steps

30th May 2025 – The SUPERVAL project, coordinated by ICIQ with the involvement of Prof. JR Galán-Mascarós’ and Prof. Núria López’s research groups, convened in Valencia on May 27–28, 2025.

The meeting, which marked the halfway point of this 3-year project, was hosted by the HG Energy Group at ITQ-UPV/CSIC, within the Ciudad Politécnica de la Innovación at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).

Over two days, partners from all eight institutions involved in the project (ICIQ, UPV, INSTM/UniME, Orchestra Scientific, Forschungszentrum Jülich, TU Eindhoven, VARESER and 2.-0 LCA Consultants) came together to share updates, discuss ongoing work, and explore future steps to transform carbon and nitrogen emissions into valuable resources such as formate or ammonia.

The sessions began with a warm welcome from the project coordinator. Throughout the afternoon, work package leaders shared progress from the past six months, covering all areas of the project: gas separation (WP1), CO₂/water photo-electrolysis (WP2), photocatalytic hydrogenation of N₂ and NOx to ammonia (WP3), device integration (WP4), dissemination, communication, and exploitation (WP5), project management (WP6), and portfolio activities (WP7).

On the second day, after a wrap-up session and planning of future meetings, participants toured the ITQ-UPV laboratory facilities, guided by Josep Albero (UPV). The visit offered a closer look at the infrastructure supporting SUPERVAL’s experimental activities and was a great opportunity to experience firsthand the spaces where much of the research is taking place.

This meeting not only provided technical updates but also helped to define priorities for the next project phase. It served to generate productive discussions and contributed to strengthening the cohesion across the consortium.
