Minister Núria Montserrat visited the laboratories of the Department of Knowledge and Technology Transfer and Industrial Projects
20th June 2025 -
The Minister for Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat, visited the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) to learn first-hand about the scientific and technological projects being developed there. During the visit, she was accompanied by the Director of ICIQ, Prof. Emilio Palomares, and the institute’s General Manager and Administrative Director, Dr. Imma Escofet, with whom she toured several key facilities of the institute.
Montserrat visited the laboratories of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer and Industrial Projects Department (ICIQ – KTT), where she had the opportunity to speak with research staff about the practical applications of the chemical research conducted at the centre. This research not only generates new knowledge but also has a real impact on society.
Afterwards, the Minister met with ICIQ’s executive team to analyse the current situation of the chemical research sector. The meeting served to highlight the main challenges facing the scientific system, as well as the opportunities emerging in a context marked by the need for transformation and strategic commitment to innovation.
“The Minister wanted to learn about the research being carried out at the centre—it was a very positive and productive meeting,” said Dr. Imma Escofet. Meanwhile, Prof. Emilio Palomares emphasized the fact that the Minister is an ICREA researcher and has led European projects. “She understands very well that research must be a natural part of the entire value chain, from laboratories to industry,” he stated.
The visit highlighted ICIQ’s strategic role within the country’s research ecosystem, with a strong focus on innovation and collaboration with the industrial sector.
