The 2014 SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) places ICIQ as the leading government research centre worldwide according to the ratio of Excellence with Leadership.
Excellence and Leadership indicates the amount of documents in the Excellence rate in which the institution is the main contributor. Excellence rate represents the amount (in %) of an institution’s scientific output that is included into the set of the 10 % of the most cited papers in their respective scientifics fields.
The SIR also places ICIQ in second place in the Spanish rankings of High Quality Publications (ratio of papers that an institution publishes in the most influential journals of the world, those ranked in the first quartile) and Normalized Impact (it shows the relationship between the average scientific impact of an institution and the world average set).
“From the beginning of the research activities of the institute, excellence and leadership have been our commitments. We are now proud to see how these commitments are reflected in the SCImago ranking 2014” -said ICIQ’s director, Prof. Miquel A. Pericàs.
Besides ICIQ, other five CERCA research centres, CREAL, ICRA, IFAE, ICN, CRG, are between the 10 most excellent research institutions in Spain.
The SIR annual reports analyse the research results of institutions worldwide to evaluate, according to different bibliometric indicators, the scientific impact and excellence of them. Scopus database provides the information with which these reports are made. For the year 2014 the results used are those for the five-year period 2008-2012.
ICIQ’s first position in the list confirms that, after 10 years of activity, the ICIQ has become an institution of international reference in the field of chemical research. This excellence is also reflected in the fact that this year ICIQ has been accredited “Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence”.
