About the PhD Day

We are excited to announce the fourth edition of the ICIQ PhD Day, an event designed for and by ICIQ PhD students featuring interesting invited conferences, flash presentations and poster and networking sessions. It will take place at ICIQ on the 28th and 29th May 2020.

The number of poster/flash presentations is limited by time and space constraints (30 posters, 25 flash presentations). Preference will be given to those who register first, but in order to balance the scientific program we aim to include presentations from as many groups as possible.

Registration

In order to register to the ICIQ PhD Day 2020, please fill in this form and send your abstract to ipd@iciq.es before April 26th. You may download a template for the abstract here.

Programme

Speakers

Dr. Pilar Calleja (Wiley-VCH)
Pili Calleja
Pilar Calleja completed her B.Sc. at the University of Barcelona. In 2012, she received the Master of Synthesis and Catalysis Extraordinary Award from the Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona. She joined the group of Prof. Antonio M. Echavarren at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), where she obtained her PhD (2017) working on homogeneous gold catalysis. Then, she moved to Heidelberg (Germany) to work as postdoctoral researcher in the Catalysis Research Laboratory (CaRLa), where she was studying the reductive hydrolysis of nitriles. Pilar joined Wiley-VCH in 2019 as an Assistant Editor for Chemistry—A European Journal
Dr. Max García-Melchor (Trinity College Dublin)
Max García
Max García-Melchor received his B.Sc. in Chemistry and M.Sc. in Theoretical Chemistry from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. After obtaining his PhD in Chemistry in 2012, he joined the group of Prof. Nuria López at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), where he conducted postdoctoral research that allowed him to underpin the mechanisms and factors that govern several catalytic processes on metal oxides surfaces. In November 2016, he took up an Assistant Professorship in Chemical Energy Systems in the School of Chemistry in Trinity College Dublin, where he leads the Computational Catalysis and Energy Materials (CCEM) Group. His research group at Trinity focuses on the theoretical description of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic reactions for energy-related applications, and the design of more efficient materials for the development of energy conversion and storage technologies.
Dr. Luisa María Fraga Trillo (Repsol)
Luisa Fraga
Luisa Maria Fraga Trillo is a technology consultant and Repsol representative in multiple external forums with special relevance in panels of experts in Suschem Europe as well as in various initiatives and associations related to Chemistry, Nanotechnology and Materials (Materplat, Nanospain, Plastics Europe). Her expertise is in the design and development of polymeric materials and nanomaterials and has played different roles in areas related to Technology Strategy, Open Innovation, Experimental Areas Management and Technical Advisory.
Dr. Elena Pazos (Universidade da Coruña)
Elena Pazos
Elena Pazos graduated in Chemistry from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in 2006, and obtained her PhD under the supervision of Prof. José L. Mascareñas and Prof. M. Eugenio Vázquez, working on luminescent sensors of proteins involved in cancer. In 2012 received the Fundación Barrié postdoctoral fellowship and joined Prof. Samuel I. Stupp at Northwestern University, where she worked on the development of supramolecular peptide nanostructures for biomedical applications. After her postdoctoral period, she joined Medcom Advance S.A. in October 2014 as Research Officer. From December 2015 until June 2017, she worked in the group of Prof. Ramón A. Álvarez-Puebla at the Centre Tecnològic de la Química de Catalunya as Incoming TECNIOspring and Marie Curie Researcher. In July 2017 she joined the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and the Advanced Scientific Research Center (CICA) at the Universidade da Coruña. Her research group focuses on  the development of chemical tools for their use in biomedicine.
Dr. Michael Parmentier (Novartis)
Michael Parmentier
Michael Parmentier received his PhD degree in Chemistry from the Université de Montréal (Canada) under the supervision of Prof. Hélène Lebel working on metal-catalyzed methylenation and enantioselective aziridination reactions. After a postdoctoral research with Prof. Andreas Pfaltz working on the synthesis and application of new iridium catalysts, Michael joined Roche in Basel as scientific collaborator. Since 2012, he is a principal scientist in research and development in Novartis, where he is developing robust and efficient chemical processes for the preparation of drug substances.
Dr. Adela I Carrillo (European research Council)
Adela carrillo
Adela Carrillo is a scientific officer of European Research Council (ERC) in Brussels (Belgium). Her background  is in material science, in which she earned her PhD degree from the University of Alicante working on the development and characterization of mesoporous silica materials. Adela was a COFUND postdoctoral fellow in the group of Prof. Miquel Pericas at the ICIQ from 2016 to 2017.
Prof. Antonio M. Echavarren (ICIQ)
Prof-Echavarren-foto
Prof. Echavarren obtained his PhD at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in 1982. Since 1992 he is a full professor at Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, where he heads the Research Group on Organometallic Chemistry Directed Towards Organic Synthesis. Since 2004 he is working as Group Leader at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ). Since 2018, he is the President of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ).
